- The AGM report
Herewith a copy of the press release about the AGM which appeared in The Courier, Forfar Dipatch, Kirriemuir Herald and possibly the P & J.
At the Sunday meeting of Kirriemuir Wargames Club a diverse range of interests was on display.
Gordon Yacomine ran an English Civil War game in 15mm using the “Regiment of Foote” rules. Gordon has always been a fan of the “get ‘em on the table” approach and this was in evidence with his use of very rapid painting methods.
Bob Lauder suffered at the hands of The Little General, the youngest member of the club, when his crack German panzers were wiped out by the Russian hordes. The Little General recently made a thirty five minute DVD recreating the film Saving Private Ryan using animated Lego and Polish subtitles. This was a very unusual combination but very effective nevertheless.
There were three Warhammer 40K multi-player games with players boning up on the rules for the start of the 2009 league. Members were also planning their participation in the forthcoming Urban War competition to be held in Edinburgh and setting a date for the club’s own UM competition.
David Tulloch displayed his own handiwork in the form of the Mexican/American war table which is to be the club game for the 2009 season. David’s personal voyage of discovery in relation to figure painting has thrown up a wonderful talent within the club which will be aired in Glasgow, Falkirk, Edinburgh and Dundee later in the year.
The largest game of the day, Steve Rimmer’s War of the Roses Battle of Bosworth Field in 28mm, was over seventy square feet of visual delight. Steve, who is no mean painter himself, has had thousands of figures professionally painted to the highest standard and many of them formed the spectacular centrepiece of his breathtaking, late medieval table. Steve’s personal rules, his Lance and Longbow Society experience and his own highly developed organisational skills all combined to make a very enjoyable game in this multi-player extravaganza.
The riot of colour that is the War of the Roses period conceals the terrible brutality of these times, something that is well reflected in the Steve’s home grown rules.
The A.G.M. was also held at the meeting. The treasurer Steve Shaw reported a very healthy balance despite over £1,000.00 of additional and extraordinary expenditure.
Out-going chairman Dale Smith congratulated club members on conducting themselves so well at the public shows throughout the country over the past year, where the club displays were enthusiastically received. With membership stabilised at just over the thirty mark, Kirriemuir Wargames Club continues to attract high profile wargamers and new recruits alike, which augers well for the future of the club.
The club has been running its own show each year since 1986 with TARGE 08, held in November, recording some record highs. Innovations at TARGE included the introduction of the annual “Targe” which was awarded to STEVE Rimmer for his Orleons Joan of Arc table, and a free figure at the door for the first 200 customers. A cheque for £200.00 was donated to Combat Stress with a further donation to go to a local charity.
The Chairman closed by thanking all members of the committee for their work in the club, with particular thanks to the treasurer Steve Shaw, who had carefully nurtured club funds once again.
