Just in case you haven't seen this new look website before and think you've got the wrong page, you haven't. Everything that was here still is and some more, feel free to poke around and see if you like the new look and content.

Recent Club Games

Advanced Heroquest

This one was ressurected by Gordon, and hauled along to the club. It was the AHQ game known and loved by many but with the added attraction of a proper 3D dungeon to play in.

I really didnt know how this simple game would go down with the youngsters brought up on GW's current crop of games that require a 900+ page rulebook and all the supplements to play. Lets just say at one point there were 16 of them packed around the table clamouring for a chance to play in the next game. In part the attraction was the almost constant banter and quotes/misquotes from almost any fantasy film that you could name. The most memorable was when the barbarian threw the dwarf over a pit. The dwarf was heard to mutter "Dont tell the elf, okay?" The game was a blast and it will be making another appearance at the club shortly.

Warhammer WW2

This one was brought along by Fraser and Ross last Saturday.

At first it all seemed like a normal (if a little oversized) WW2 game. Pretty much standard fare until all the usual GW nonsense reared its ugly head. Tanks that can move swivel the turret, fire the main gun at one target, spin the tank body, spin the turret back and fire all the MGs at a different target. Hmmmm and not even a penalty on the shooting. Then we had the PzSchreks that could fire twice as far as a rifle, more raised eyebrows! Sorry guys, the only thing that game had to do with WW2 was the uniforms, it was just 40k in different clothes. I can honestly say its the only WW2 game I've played in a long time that I didnt enjoy.

Rapid Fire

This one was brought along by Dale last Sunday.

As per normal, this game failed to really live up to its name, the first few turns seemed to take quite a while but once a few things had died it definiyly speeded up. The Germans were under the overall command of UberGruppenFuhrer Dale Schmitt, not so ably assisted by Colonel Klink (AKA Dave), I've never seen one person roll so many ones! The Allies were an ad-hoc unit thrown into the path of a Hun counter attack, the American contingent were commanded by one star general Dave Tulloch and the rather ineptly commanded Brits by myself. All in all everyone had fun, high and low points of the game were my elite Para battalion surrendering without managing to get a single shot off, and the invunerable Tiger II being taken out by an artillery round straight though its turret hatch.

Pieces of Eight

This was a practice for Wappinshaw. The rules used are (I nearly typed Arhh!! there) available on the downloads page. What can I say about this one? Youngsters falling over themselves to have a go, nice terrain and figures (all done by Dale and Steve). As expected the game soon degenerated into traditional piratical behaviour with crosses and double-crosses, much back stabbing and lots of racing round an island looking for the treasure, dealing with the hostile natives and looking for ways of killing any rival crewmen who wandered into range. A whole load of fun

Dirtside 2

This was brought out because I spotted some very funky minis folowing a link from TMP. They were Dark Realms 6 mil stuff, they really are worth looking up, the best sixmil I've seen yet. Anyway, Dirtside 2 was dug out as a set of rules and a whole bunch of old Space Marine minis got rough speed paint. The Ultramarine unit was commanded by Dave M (our local Larry Leadhead) and the fictional Sandrunner Legion by moi. How did it go? The rules are a breeze to follow, artillery really is the king of the battlefield, tanks that stray too close to infantry get punished severely, in short quite realistic (well as far as a sci-fi game can be). Fair sized game, slowed by lots of referencing rules when things came up for the first time etc, but it was played out to a conclusion in 3 hours or so, allowing for setting up, lunch and packing up. So, will it be making another appearance? Hell yeah!! I've just ordered up some more units, VTOLs, Missile Tanks and powered infantry. GO Sandrunners!!!!!
