well the ruleset is AWESOME, think BKC but slightly different. Main difference is, you say what a units gonna try to do before you roll the dice.
So, you could be optimistic and decide you were gonna roll well and say "this unit will wheel 45 degrees left, move towards that enemy unit, then charge!". Maximum number of actions is 3, so you'd need all 3. You could end up only getting 2 and leave your unit standing there right under the enemy musket barrels. I just love the general idea of it all, no faffing about with beads, or taking a whole load of tests.
But as far as scale goes, you know that 10mm is made of WIN!!!!!
BTW, DING!!!!!!!!!!! 74...........

I bought Black Powder from Dave Ryan, Caliver Books at Carronade during my very short visit. Apart from the big glossy format, what attracted me to it was it's generic approach with a scenario from the Sudan campaigns.
Gordon, The Sudan is just gorgeous in 28mm. I have been quietly adding to my Egyptians and British with a view to a good sized bash sometime this year.
David Mathieson, I still have my 6mm Austrians. You and Cammie are welcome to use them at any time but for sheer spectacle Napoleonics in 25/28mm is unbeatable.
Now did I tell you the one about the invincible Scots Greys. Gordon will probably want to tell you himself. Suffice to say that not enough of them got back to their own lines to make a single Scots Grey horse steak! This incident may have coloured Gordon's view of R2E but up until that point I think that we were all impressed at the speed of deployment and exploitation. As an umpire I did warn about over exploitation but nobody has ever listened to me in the past so why should they start now.

Nah it wasnt the poor Greys performance that coloured my opinion of R2E, just that the rules really are pants. Too many tests, all that faffing about with beads and a quick reference sheet that looks like an encylopedia. Definitly not fr me. However, BP yeah thats complicated, tell your guys what you want them to do, roll the dice and see if they do it, that works fr me. Shooting and hand to hand, 4+ to hit, unless your in cover, yep that also works fr me.
Call me a philistine if you like, I really, really dont want complicated and over-detailed rules, I want rules that let me play a game in a couple of hours with as many toys on the table as I can get onto it (without the traffic jams of many of Dale's games).

Very nice Dave.
As far as Black Powder goes, I've strangely enough changed me mind yet again, basicly cos of that git Dave at Museum Miniatures, his prices are just too hard to resist, he seems to have a 10% off sale on constantly. (and his figs aint bad either) That and coupled with the fact that I stumbled across my Regiment of Foote rules again and made the mistake of reading them. Both these unhappy incidents have led me to the conclusion that "the way to go" is gonna have to be some ACW army packs from Museum and Peter Pigs Civil War Battles rules. Yeah, I know that Dave's already going down this route, but it is Dave we're talking about, he's been getting it painted now for about 18 months. I wanna have a game NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Its ACW fr christs sake, stick 'em to bases, spray one half grey and the other blue, you're sorted, worry about making them pretty later, play now........

The Rebs are about finished. The Yanks are bought.
However like Gordon I have the " oh shiny" illness. Had it not been for the 10mm/6mm diverson I would probably have finished them.
I am still on course to achieve all I set out to do in 2010.
Only Vietnam may come a cropper only because since Ambush Alley teamed up with Osprey they are releasing a combined publication of Ambush Alley/Force on Force in 2011 so I think I will keep my cash meantime.
Gordon whats happening with the War of Austrian Sucession

What War of Austrian Sucession ?????
I said I got diverted, it was originally planned to do the War of Spanish Sucession, but then I gravitated to the AWI, but now I'm planning on doing ACW (15mm), and if both of us are doing it that means BIG battles.

BIG BATTLES, BIG BATTLES never thought i would hear gordon looking foreward to BB. Not that im complaining stick a few hundred minis on the table regardless of scale and im happy and BB is what BP was written for

Except that we're using CWB for ACW Cammie
Very BKCish, activate a unit based on CV, Unit quality and distance, unit then rolls for the number of activation points it has. Different but quite similar.
And CWB is a Peter Pig ruleset, Rules for the Common Man series. Google it!!!
